Is "progressive" inconsistent with "religious"?

We have seen so many arguments about how scientific and progressive are antithetic to religious. I am a software engineer living in one of the most progressive societies in the world. I deal with science and logic every workday. And yet I don't see any conflicts with my daily morning prayer. I don't see any conflict with working hard at every job I am assigned while believing that God's hand guides me. What is with this absolute view that says you are either a progressive or religious? Does anyone subscribe to this view? If so, can you explain to me your reasoning?

It vary person to person, if a person is intelligent enough then there is no conflict.

According to me.. it can conflict but you can easily handle without compromising with religion or work !
