It seems to be going around that men want sex and women need love, but how true is this and what is there to credit these allegations? Well, in today’s article we try to determine just that and how much truth lies behind all the research done by scientists in an attempt to explain this concept.
Research
We know now for a fact that lust, which is the major push behind the need for sex, is driven by the hormone testosterone. This is a predominantly male hormone, with women having few amounts of it, just enough to ensure the need for procreation. This means that men have 20 times more the amount of the hormone than women, which would explain their being in a constant state of lust.
Women on the other hand have huge amounts of oestrogen, the hormone responsible for mankind’s need to nurture, protect and love. Being the mothers, they need this to ensure the survival of their children and of course it passes on to other areas of their lives and so their need for love. Nature has programmed women to need love from men, to ensure that these men will be able to take care of their offspring.
This is one of science’s major explanations as to why men want sex and women need love. But if you live in today’s world, you wonder if the human race still holds these ideals or if it has evolved to seek other alternatives.
Our Reality
Today, women seem to want as much sex as men, with the need for love reducing considerably. With the discovery of protection techniques and the collapse of ancient society structures that were based on families, women can have as many sexual partners as men and not have to worry about having their less than perfect babies.
The feminist movement seems to be pushing for the fact that the only reason women seemed to want more love than sex is because they were suppressed and so had to pretend. They say that women want just as much sex as men and men need more or less the same amount of love as women, but since it was not macho they denied it.
When it comes to ancient mating rituals that ensured human survival, they were based on choosing the strongest in men, and most fertile in women so as to pass on the best genes. This would mean that the weak and infertile were left out. But today, we all obviously know that that is not what is happening. From people marrying physically disabled people who can not protect to clearly impotent ones who can not procreate, the choice seems to have changed.
Unfortunately, not many studies have been done to find out why people have stopped using the original indicators and are now choosing to procreate with what could probably be bad genes and would not be able to survive. Logically though, I would think that since we no longer live in the times where death was just a step away and protection was fundamental, plus the improvement in medicine, we can let love roam where it chooses .
Conclusion
In days gone past, the most important issue on anyone’s mind was the continuation of the human race and so good strong genes had to be passed on. Today, with a population so large, our concerns have changed and we need to procreate less if we are to survive. Science has come up with various ways for us to do this and so we are free to engage in our natural tendencies without risk.
It is not set in stone that men want sex and women need love, each person is unique and each has different priorities in life. You, as a person, should not be held back by what dictum society gives to you, but should do that which feels natural. If as a girl you need the reassurance of love before you have sex, you should not apologize for it and if you can have sex with whomever, wherever, you should not apologize for that either. You are your own control and should live as nature intended for you to live.
