PLU codes, short for Price Look-Up codes, are a numerical system used to uniquely identify bulk produce sold in supermarkets and grocery stores. In operation since 1990, there are currently over 1400 assigned codes. The administration of these codes falls under the International Federation for Produce Standards (IFPS), a global coalition of fruit and vegetable associations established in 2001 to implement PLU numbers worldwide.
