Re: How to connect BSNL internet in Ubuntu Linux-broadband
1. Connect your ethernet wire to the port at the back of your computer.
2. Fire up the terminal and type in sudo pppoeconf
3. It should detect your modem.
4. Keep on pressing enter. Fill in your user name and password when indicated.
5. It should be easy to stick on to defaults.
6. You should be prompted back to your terminal when it would say pppoe loaded. Simple. That's the end of terminal.
Now go to System>Administration>Networking. Click on it. You would be asked for your password to carry out the
administrative job as root. You should be prompted to enter the following details.
1. Activate the Wired connection.
2. Highlight the wired connection and click on properties.
3. Check the box "enable the connection"
this was the way i was able to connect.
thanks my problem is resolved.
Re: How to connect BSNL internet in Ubuntu Linux-broadband
I am glad you already solved it.
Though I have set my Adsl modem to connect on its own whenever switched. Hence I do not need to configure dialup connection in computer. All I need is to give proper IP and DNS info to eth0 or LAN card and I get internet working !
Re: How to connect BSNL internet in Ubuntu Linux-broadband
how can you give an ip address as far as i know we have dynamic ip address.
and please tell me DNS that dataone uses.
Re: How to connect BSNL internet in Ubuntu Linux-broadband
Well, dns used by dataone are region specific, you can find it out while you are connected to internet by typing "ipconfig" if you are under windows and "ifconfig" if you are under Linux.
About IP, I too have dynamic IP but you can set you modem to autodial and then make network with modem ie. a LAN so that you can use Modem as Gateway.
