'Law reforms alone can provide equality to all'
Kochi (PTI): Reforms in law is the only solution to provide equality to all as enshrined in the Constitution and the demand for changes will only grow stronger due to transformation in polity and economy, a member of the Commission on Centre-State Relations said here on Sunday.
"Unless comprehensive law reform is undertaken by the Centre and states on a war-footing, a number of archaic and outdated laws will govern our lives for a long time to come," N R Madhava Menon, a member of the commission said.
He was speaking after inaugurating a seminar on 'law reforms as an instrument of social engineering and the need for radical transformation in the process of law and justice in a third world country', here.
Referring to the uniform civil code, Menon said those opposed to it were dishonest to the Constitution as it enshrines equality to all.
Former Supreme Court Judge V K Krishna Iyer, the Chairman of the Kerala Law Reforms Commission, said the world has changed and that law reforms are a means for any country to achieve 'peaceful progress'.
The Law Reform Commission's report is scheduled to be submitted to Kerala Law Minister M Vijayakumar here on Monday.
