If want to connect your laptop to another monitor to expand your display or replicate your display then it is easy, just connect to secondry VGA port if your laptop has it or to HDMI port.
Then in windows ( I assume you have windows 7), right click on empty desktop, go to screen resolution. From there, under "Multiple Display" choose to extend or duplicate display.
And you are done !
