Explain Corning Gorilla Glass protection in Smartphone's ?

Hi,
i have a micromax A110 smartphone and i am using for a quite longer time, seeing it's technical specifications and review of most of the smartphone's i didn't understand what does they offer as Corning Gorilla Glass protection, is that mean that we don't have fear anything regarding to it's screen safety even if it falls or some scratches occur in it? Please explain.
