Hello. In my laptop, my Sony DVD-RW is not reading DVDs anymore, and when it rarely does, he cannot keep on (as for setting up a program or so) et keep asking me to insert the setup DVD. Is it generally a software or a hardware problem? (I use nero...). Tank you
Are u able to play C.d ? if not then its definitely hardware issue.
Both not working check with cleaning the lens of the DVD RW and then try again hence go for repair or replacement
First clean the lense and still not working then see if it is in PIO mode or DMA mode..
Hope you know abt these.. if not let us know I will update..

For the short answer, replace the drive (if you're lucky enough to get one).
I had the same glitch with my HP DV9000 (no Cheap toy by any means).. Finally had to settle with an external DVD Burner. :(
These manufacturers are cutting down the quality to reduce costs.
SONY DVD RW, DVD/CD ROM, it works for 6 - 7 months correctly with no issues, maximum of 10 months, then is starts the problems. I have got writing problems, i always use sony disks to write Datas. When we go the dealer shops to ask about the services of sony, they will say sony servicing are too bad, if you got the problem within the warrenty period then they will look. Otherwise they wont!!! My SONY DVD RW, DVD/CD ROM is only 18 months old. Now onwards i suggest to every one, not to buy SONY DVD RW, DVD/CD ROM. They only got a good brand names, the other things are really bad. Buy some other burnner. If you ask to the dealers also, they will say Sony DVD RW, DVD/CD ROM is good, but buy other other DVD RW, DVD/CD ROM thats good for you. What is this means?
