Is it legal in India to live together with a fiance?

I am just about to complete my MBA in Delhi, and came to Bangalore for staying together with my fiance for some days. He is a software engineer in Bangalore. I booked my return ticket for coming Sunday, on 26th June.

But today evening, when we were about to leave outside for dinner, the Kannadiga landlord (owner) and the broker (real estate agent) approached to the gate. He asked my fiance the reason of my staying and my identity. He honestly replied about our relationship, to which they furiously warned to vacate the house within 10 days of period.

I must tell that, both of them were in drunken mode, and threatened us because we are from outside of Karnataka. So my questions are - is it legal to stay together with fiance before marriage? Can we take legal step on this issue, or should we quietly vacate the house? Please reply before it gets late.
