how to install ubuntu

??? please give step wise instrucrions how to install ubuntu/linux on my pc.
i am not installing it because i don't want to loose my c drive data and i want to install it in d drive so that both xp and ubuntu works.

You won't delete your partition at all. Its easy to install, while it ask for Hard disk partition then select manual and you will be presented with list of current HDD partition, select your second drive which is D: drive under windows.

Lastly, if you are really scared then just get vmware trial and try to install in virtual environment before real install :)

Vmware workstation is what you need allows you to run multiple OS inside another os, say windows . It actually emulates virtual PC, it is used by developer and tester most of the time.
