A bike help needed...for a Car owner..5 gears and selfstart

Hi To all the bike experts..Friends i need some help...I already own 2 cars but now the issue is to kill short distance trips and also about the parking part for which i have decided to go for a bike which will only be used for these petty issues.Am too naive and new in the biking world so my qes ie:-

1) My budget is not more than 50k (on-road).
2) With the above budget the best bike with decent looks and my top most priority is BEST AVERAGE with a self start and 5 gears.(I guess that's too much to ask for in a range of 50k)
3)Also whats the best method to learn a bike as i do not have any friends around who r bike riders all have their own car's..This is my main issue...

PLEASE HELP WITH ALL THE ANS IF YOU GUYS CAN...Am going for the bike asap so if you can take out time from your precious schedule would really be happy....
