American Interested in Scooter or Small Motorcycle (Used bike Purschase)

Hello,

Next September I will be starting in Jaisalmer and traveling to Chennai to catch a plane. I will have about 6 weeks to get from one place to the other. I'd like to buy a scooter or small motorcycle used and ride it to Chennai and sell it, but I have a few questions.

a) How much would a decent used scooter cost? Insurance?
b) Can an american legally buy and own a scooter or motorcycle in India?
c) Would this be a pleasant / fun / interesting / doable ride?
d) Would I be able to sell it easily in Chennai?

I'm not looking to purchase the scooter or motorcycle at this time. I'm simply try to find out the answers to these questions.
