Yamaha Motor Company, the world's second-largest motorcycle maker, has decided to set up a joint venture company with Mitsui & Co to manufacture motorcycles in India.

As part of an internal restructuring, Yamaha is planning to upgrade its Indian operations and rename it India Yamaha Motor, the Japan-based company said in a statement filed with the Tokyo Stock Exchange today. The new entity will start operations in April.

The tie up follows Mitsui, Japan's second-largest trading company, buying a 3% stake in Yamaha Motor last year.
