Mahindra and Mahindra launches the world's first hydrogen 3-wheeler, the HyAlfa at the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi. This auto is based on Hydrogen fuel and Alfa 3 wheeler range. This product is joint venture between three parties Mahindra, United Nations Industrial Development Organization and Indian Institute Of Technology, Delhi.

It took around three years and USD 1 million Dollars to built this vehicle. This amount was spent by all three parties in a appropriate proportion. The company aims to reduce pollution by using hydrogen. It should be noted that Hydrogen is free of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and particulates. It offers a astounding mileage of 80 kilometer with one kilogram of hydrogen.

Mahindra has already produced 15 vehicles along with IIT Delhi. Air Products USA has agreed to provide a refueling station at Pragati Maidan for these vehicles.

As if now this technology is initial stages and will require certain time to develop.....this technology is costly as if now and it will take few years until when the company is able to break even.

Expect at least five years time until when this tempo will be seen running on streets

Once again great post you shared with us well its quite interesting news here but I think its more dangerous then GAS and LPG because Hydrogen is highly combustible gas then any other substance.

I never thought about it .. but yes your point is well taken.. I hope the company is well aware of this point and will take adequate safety measures

Ravinder you are right that the company must had taken some safety features but I just want to say that in cease of Hydrogen gas the probability will be more for any miss-happening. As we already heard about the CNG or LPG car catches fire and all that.

....It's a great honor that Mahindra, an Indian company has became the world's first company to develop a Hydrogen powered three vehicle .... A great leap in technology specially considering it will save petrol and also protect the environment

Considering it is a new technology it will be costly and will take time before these tempo will run on road as a substitute of the conventional tempos....

As @vikas mentioned what is the safety guarantee of these vehicles as he correctly mentioned that hydrogen is a highly combustible gas then any other substance.
