Ingredients
1 cup Toovar dal
2 tablespoons Peanuts
1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
4 Kokum
1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
2 teaspoons Sugar
8 Curry leaves
1 pinch Asafoetida
1/2 cup Coriander leaves
6 tablespoons Ghee
1 cup Wheat flour
1 tablespoon Oil
Salt (As per taste)

Method
Mix together the flour, 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder, ½ tsp. red chilli powder, salt and 1 tbsp oil and knead into a smooth dough with water. Keep aside for half an hour.

Boil the dal and peanuts (soaked in water for 15 minutes) in a pressure cooker till the dal is thoroughly cooked.

Heat ghee in a thick bottomed pan, add cumin seeds, garlic and asafoetida. When the seeds start crackling add the boiled dal. Add kokums, remaining turmeric and chilli powder, sugar, curry leaves and 2-3 cups of water. Boil well.

Make small portions of the dough and roll them into small discs dusting flour whenever required. Cut the rolled discs into small diamonds or squares and add into the boiling dal. Simmer for about 15 minutes.

Garnish with coriander. Serve hot.

This dish is eaten on its own with onions and a dollop of ghee.
