PAA: HINDI MOVIE REVIEW
Paa , a father son relation ship as it has been publicized is much much more than just a father son relationship. It’s a movie on a rare subject, but has been handled extremely well by director R Balki.
The film has Vidya Balna (Vidya) a gynecologist and Abhishek (Amol Atre ) who is playing a politician. Both of them meet and fall in love. When Vidya tells Amol that she is pregnant, the ambitious man wating to do good for his country asks Vidya to abort the child which she naturally doesn’t and goes on to have this son known as Auro (Amitabh Bachan). Auro is a bright child with a rare disease “Progeria” which makes him age five times faster. So the 13 year old Auro looks like a 65 old child-adult. The amazing thing about him is his appearance and the most difficult job of convincing the audience about the kind of role that Amitabh plays in the film. He is a natural, and plays his part so well that one needs to give this great performer a standing ovation. Well Auro is a bright child and loved by all including his mother, Grandmother (Arundhati Nag) who he lovingly calls bums and his teacher and friends at school. He wins a price at the school fair and the person who hands over the price is none other than Amol Atre who is interested in knowing more about the child. Now a child with such a disease does not live for a longer duration, 13-14 years at most and on one such occasion Auro suffers a stroke and Vidya tells him who is father is. Surprisingly Auro recovers and the trip to Delhi happens where the chemistry between father-son takes place. Auro wants to unite both his parents and it happens after yet another stoke that he suffers.
A film that this director has made will move you and don’t be surprised if you find your eyes wet after the movie. The brilliant performance by Amitabh Bachan is a must watch. The role in itself is not easy to play, but Amitabh does it with such finesse that you have to accept what you see. Special mention should be made about the make up artist Christien Tinsley and Domini Till who have contributed to the appearance of Auro and making it look so real. The beauty of the entire film is that everyone in the movie contributes towards it, be it Abhishek or Vidya Balan who looks beautiful or Arundhati Nag who gives in a superb performance. Jaya Bachan’s presence to is lovely and even the young boy who plays Auro’s best buddy is good, and the telephonic conversation between them is excellent.
The film should do well in all parts of the country and will also be liked with people who have a heart and want to see a new subject. However there may be a small percentage of people who will ignore the story and the acting in it as well. Its not a emotional movie as it has delightful moments in them, but the subject discussed here will fill up your heart and make you emotional. Watch it for the brilliance and Amazing performance delivered by Amitabh Bachan. If a true movie lover, you will enjoy his performance completely.
Personally I don’t like films that make you cry, for we go in a movie hall to be entertained, and time and money are both essential commodities in today’s world. But Paa has a different story like ‘Chak de’ which is on sports and this on a young child with a young mind but a rare disease that ages him quickly. A subject that may have been made earlier but I am sure no one can take Amitab Bachans place ever in terms of acting and performance.
