I upgraded my sim card bought 2gb rs 450 but my sim card still does not give me internet connectivity.However when I put my sim card in my mobile i get 5 bars

You should understand how it works.

When you do a 3G recharge, you will receive 3G speed and if you do a 2G recharge, you will get 2G speed but..
To receive 3G speed, you should use 3G mode ie. HSDPA or sometimes referred as WCDMA in mobile settings.

So, if you set your phone to WCDMA mode or HSDPA mode and receives signals then 3G is working on your phone, now try to connect internet, and check speed using any online speed test.

If you have 3G signal then you can make voice call too but just using 3G signals, in 3G mode you can make video call too.

I always appreciate a reply ,especially on a technical subject.I have however given the sim to my brother who lives in the city>The 5 bars I got were on a feature phone and not on a on a smartphone
I have gone back to my landline and upgraded the plan(rural combo 999) for next month

Most probably in your area 3G is not available or its weak.
