Can a boy and girl be just " good friends " ??? Support with a reason below.

I used to think that boy and girl can be good friends but now I know that they can not. Even if girl and boy both don't want to get into relations more than friends, time shows its effect and things turn awkward for them, sometimes from girl side and sometimes from boy's side.
