Rahat Fatah Ali Khan arrested on Delhi airport

The legend of Sufi songs and Qawwali Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is arrested at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport Sunday. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is a pakistani singer who is also a sensational singer of Bollywood and is now widely acclaimed in India.

It is reported that Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was carrying an undeclared amount of $10,000 and arrested at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on sunday by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). Rahat has been presented at patiala house later today (Monday) as the DRI official source said.

Let us tell you the full story behind this scene, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was on his way back to Pakistan after attending concerts and award functions in India. More than $100,000 were recovered from the 15-member troupe. Any amount in excess of $10,000 has to be declared by a traveler to the customs. As per the official source Rahat was questioned by senior DRI officials till late last night.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is nephew of legendary singer late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and is popular both in India and Pakistan. He gave countless hit songs to Indian cinema which create a special space in the heart of indian fans. His songs are a rage on both sides of the border. He has won too many awards for it's sufiana voice and recently he was awarded at the filmfare for best playback singer for "Dil to Bacha Hai Jee" from the film 'Ishqiya'. Now Pakistan has begun raging efforts to secure the release of the singer. Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir called Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad Sharat Sabharwal and discussed the matter around midnight Sunday. He requested the Indian envoy to ensure that "no official should misbehave with Rahat during interrogation".
