• Finally Microsoft acquired Skype

    The Technology Giant Microsoft has now finally acquired the Skype and paid a sum of $8.5 billion. The board of directors of both company has approved the agreement. Now Microsoft has become the foremost company in the world of video chat and VOIP services.

    Microsoft said on it, "The acquisition will increase the accessibility of real-time video and voice communications, bringing benefits to both consumers and enterprise users and generating significant new business and revenue opportunities. The combination will extend Skype's world-class brand and the reach of its networked platform, while enhancing Microsoft's existing portfolio of real-time communications products and services”.


    The CEO of Skype, Tony Bates said, "“Microsoft and Skype share the vision of bringing software innovation and products to our customers, together, we will be able to accelerate Skype's plans to extend our global community and introduce new ways for everyone to communicate and collaborate”.

    After acquiring the Skype, Microsoft want to enhance it's uses and now the skype will also support devices like Xbox and Kinect, Windows Phone and other windows devices. Microsoft will make Skype able to connect to Lync, Outlook, Xbox Live as well as other Microsoft communities as the company says.

    Microsoft will make a division of Skype in it's company and Skype's CEO Tony Bates will be the president of that division. Microsoft will continue it's investment in Skype and also support the Skype clients on non-Microsoft platforms.

    This acquisition also opens new world of video advertisement to Microsoft and hence a new avenue for the company.
