The Pirate Bay, one of the most well-known website for downloading torrents related to pirated stuff such as movies, music and software, has doubled its traffic despite being banned in several countries.
As per a report on TorrentFreak, the notorious torrent site has managed to double its visitors even though it is banned in various countries.
Entertainment industries around the globe have been trying extremely hard to ban / block the most censored torrent website. Denmark was the first country to blackout the website followed by UK and Netherlands. ISPs were ordered to block access to the website for their customers. Though these were considered a major hit to the site, The Pirate Bay informed TorrentFreak that the number of visitors have doubles since the ban in 2011.
The Pirate Bay did not disclose the number of visitors they have, but the pageviews have run into hundreds of millions.
Though the number on the graph seems that the site is doing well, it does not mean that the blocking by ISPs is not working. Users wanting to visit the website are using different techniques such as proxy sites, proxy software, VPN, TOR and various other methods. As per the reports, the US is by far the highest traffic source for the website.
