NASA / NASA Reported Ground Water level going down in North India
NASA, National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s satellite imagery submitted a Report to the scientific paper US Based said that Level of Groundwater getting down every year.
Groundwater levels in Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi are falling down one foot every year and this issue can lead to extensive socio-economic stresses for the region’s 114 million residents in North India.
The Images took from NASA’s Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE), a pair of satellites that sense changes in Earth’s gravity field and associated mass distribution, including water masses stored above or below the Earth’s surface.
International journal Nature Published a report in the paper saying 109 cubic km of groundwater has been lost in just six years (2002-08) and this could be the India’s largest surface reservoir Upper Wain Ganga and Doubled than the government’s estimation.
Report also says that from the August 2002 and October 2008, the region lost 109 cubic km of groundwater; almost triple the capacity of the largest man-made reservoir in the U.S, Lake Mead. This a serious issue which need to think more seriously as it could be the reason of collapse of agricultural output and severe shortages of potable water.

Re: NASA / NASA Reported Ground Water level going down in North India
IF the water level Down in these states means there will be increase of of gap between the earth and the Down earth... and earth level too gets down and that can cause the chances of Food in these States and can be damage in the earth.
Re: NASA / NASA Reported Ground Water level going down in North India
oh tht is bad.. tht means the ground level decreases ....right.
Re: NASA / NASA Reported Ground Water level going down in North India
Ya... Its happening because of Global Warming and less Rain fall. in this states.
These states really need Heavy rains.
Re: NASA / NASA Reported Ground Water level going down in North India
yeah .. as it is rajasthan has always less rainfalls then what is expected. Then this year in Delhi also there is no rains. government should take a decision and go for artificial rains now. coz its really high time to wait for rains.
Re: NASA / NASA Reported Ground Water level going down in North India
why ground water level is going down instead of the continuous rain and even the water cycle is continuouslly taking place.
Re: NASA / NASA Reported Ground Water level going down in North India
Bcz there is no rain water harvesting and there is over use of ground water.
Re: NASA / NASA Reported Ground Water level going down in North India
Rain???
In Delhi.. Weather report said in Delhi Approz 44 % less Rain in Delhi but believe me its opposite happened here..
Till date the Weather is Hot as like in June July months...
There is one more reason behind that is Delhi Metro which is almost underground in Many location of Delhi.
Re: NASA / NASA Reported Ground Water level going down in North India
What can we do to solve these irrigation water problems and drought and floods. We in India always have this problem, some parts are suffering due to floods, while other parts are suffering with droughts. May be linking the rivers in India offers a solution. Ofcourse along with rainwater harvesting, more small scale dams or hydro projects.
