Why Women athletes failing gender tests, be it Pinki and now Santhi soundarajan
In times of India, I saw another where Asiad Silver medalist Santhi Soundarajan is working on daily wages,
[quote Santhi Soundarajan won a silver medal in the 800m at the Doha Asian Games in 2006, then lost it after she failed a gender test. Today, she works as a daily-wager in a brick kiln, slogging eight hours under a scorching sun to earn Rs 200 every day — the wage paid to women labourers.[/quote]
Recently it was Pinki Parmanik, she was accused of being male when her alleged partner Anamika Acharya, filed a complained against her, stating that the athlete is a male and has been forcefully cohabitating with her for several months. Pramanik had also apparently promised to marry her, but later denied to.
Pinki Pramanik was taken to a private nursing home, where it was confirmed that she’s a male. Later on, 13 July, Pinki's former live-in partner alleged that she had brought rape charges against Pinki at the behest of Avtar Singh . According to her, Pramanik and Singh were locked in a bitter land dispute.
Now, it is seriously a matter of concern that why it is so hard and confusing to figure out whether a person is male or female ?
Is it that female athletes are taking too much male hormones to enhance their athletic stamina however resulting in damage to their gender identity ?
