When one prays, to whomever one believes, be it God or jesus or buddha or Parvathi Devi or allah etc etc. one should hold a sankalpa / wish / strong positive intention. (prayers or requests should always be positive / good wishes for oneself and for another.)
Before one goes to pray one should remove anger / hate or other negative emotions that one harbors for self and others. One should be forgiving to the self(remove guilt), and to others. What is the reason for this other than it being good for the self and the person against whom the negative emotions are directed towards?
God or the creator has given human beings the abitliy to create. It begins with an idea or thought. Thus many inventors, scientists, artists etc have created many useful ingenious things for the benefit of human beings. And likewise there are others who have created things which have been destructive to mankind when not used judiciously. It all began with a thought or a dream or a goal. So be careful with your thoughts. They have energies. Hence, always wish well for the self and for others.
If there is someone who is giving you difficulties, just pray that the Lord Almighty changes their heart,soul, mind and their actions without hurting them(the same goes when you have made mistakes or have hurt someone by intention or without intention). And if necessary to distant that person from you or to cut off that relationship so both can be at peace. If it is someone whom you have responsibility towards, like your parents or children or someone whom you have been placed responsibility(one who cannot take care of himself / herself) with in life,
you have to pray that the negativity between both of you should vanish with time and possibly find someone who would take care of that person in a good way; but not leave the responsibility.
When one prays or repeats the same prayer or mantra over and over, we create the power of creation within us...something similar to electricity. And it must be used for our benefit and not misdirected. But most of us are not 100% focused or have a completely calm mind, the mind is always active or full of thoughts, some good and some not so good. We all have daily stresses, frustrations, tensions in the environment and we sometimes tend to take it out on ourselves or the ones near and dear to us.
What to do in this case?
1) Do minimum of 9 rounds of nadi shodana. If you are praying for prolonged periods, then one can do more, but do not overdo it till your body adjusts. It is best to learn more about this and take the advice from a yoga practitioner / teacher. This nadi shodana is an internal cleanser and transforms the self to a calmer and more peaceful being. It is quite powerful. If you are on a religious or spiritual path then learn to do this.
Learn from a yoga teacher. And remember this is not an aerobic exercise to exert your body. In yoga one should do as much as one can bear without exertion, the body and mind needs to adapt to the changes.
so just do one or two times of nadi shodana initially and see the effects on your body and gradually increase.
2) One can go through the cleansing meditation daily.
3) change your diet. Stop caffeinated beverages, such as coffee, tea, soda. Do not take spiciy or chilly food which can make one to be more on the edge and angry.
4) Learn to be understanding towards self and others, know that there are many facing stress / tensions / problems in life just like you and sometimes they tend to take it on others, which can make the next person angry if they rub the person in the wrong way thus creating a negative chain reaction. So try to be understanding and forgiving. When one forgives someone, you unlink the negative chain from being a part of you. And you can also pray continuosly or bless the wrong doer, thus he/she loses the power to do harm towards you. This sort of cleanses your past karma or past lives karma or the negative hurdles or negative forces of the journey of life one must encounter in order to reach higher stage. Remember that the others are just a part of a play of your own creation(of the past or present) or what you have to face in this life. You can change your creation at any time with will.
On the other hand if one reacts negatively to the wrong doer, you take the negative karma and one must ask for self-forgiveness and remove one’s guilt and make remedies(through prayer or positive action) to reach higher. So better to wish within yourself to the wrong-doer : forgiveness,peace,wisdom and love and point out their mistakes in a nice manner.
Along with positive forces there are also negative forces in this world that influence people to do harm to others. If there are no negative forces, life on earth will be peaceful and no one will harm the other.
5) Best time to pray is between 4 to 6 Am in morning when the surroundings are calm, this is also supposed to be a good period for prayer.
If you are not able to pray with a peaceful or calm mind then better to ask someone who is. But it is best to train oneself to do so slowly and gradually and to continue with this habit daily throughout one’s life.

And know that God is love and love is God, everything else other than love is negativity.
I will give you an example of love's transformation. Buddha was walking along with his disciples on a certain path. A certain individual who had murdered about more than 100 people, had cut of his victims thumbs and wore a garland made out of it. When he saw Buddha, he raised his sword and ran towards Buddha to kill him. Buddha stood still. When he reached Buddha, he was immediately transformed by his immense aura of love that he dropped his sword and fell on Buddha's feet and asked Buddha for forgiveness. And later that person started preaching about Buddha and God to other people.
There are many such examples with jesus , many swamis and saints.
So know this when you pray, only love and everything good is God and everything else other than love is not.
