I have seen many policeman wearing uniform and on their shoulders there are stars located sometimes it counts 1 , sometimes 2 and finally 3 and a police soldier also got stripes in his uniform. Please tell me the significance of the stars and insignia. Please explain??

Inspector of Police wears uniform equipped with 3 stars, Sub-Inspector of Police with 2 stars, and Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police with a single star, Police Head Constable got 3 insignia and Senior Police Constable with 2 insignia and Police Constable has no insignia.
