The official Sanskrit name for India is Bharat. INDIA has been called Bharat even in Satya yuga ( Golden Age ). The name `India’ is derived from the River Indus, the valleys around which were the home of the early settlers. The Aryan worshippers referred to the river Indus as the Sindhu.

The Persian invaders converted it into Hindu. The name `Hindustan’ combines Sindhu and Hindu and thus refers to the land of the Hindus.

The art of Navigation & Navigating was born in the river Sindh 6000 over years ago. The very word ‘Navigation’ is derived from the Sanskrit word NAVGATIH. The word navy is also derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Nou’.

Bhaskaracharya rightly calculated the time taken by the earth to orbit the sun hundreds of years before the astronomer Smart. His calculations was - Time taken by earth to orbit the sun: ( 5th century ) 365.258756484 days.

The value of “pi” was first calculated by the Indian Mathematician Budhayana, and he explained the concept of what is known as the Pythagorean Theorem. He discovered this in the 6th century, which was long before the European mathematicians.

Algebra, trigonometry and calculus also orignated from India. Quadratic equations were used by Sridharacharya in the 11th century. The largest numbers the Greeks and the Romans used were 106 whereas Hindus used numbers as big as 10*53 ( i.e 10 to the power of 53 ) with specific names as early as 5000 B.C. during the Vedic period. Even today, the largest used number is Tera: 10*12( 10 to the power of 12 ).

The Baily Bridge is the highest bridge in the world. It is located in the Ladakh valley between the Dras and Suru rivers in the Himalayan mountains. It was built by the Indian Army in August 1982.

Sushruta is regarded as the father of surgery. Over 2600 years ago Sushrata & his team conducted complicated surgeries like cataract, artificial limbs, cesareans, fractures, urinary stones and also plastic surgery and brain surgeries.

Usage of anesthesia was well known in ancient India medicine. Detailed knowledge of anatomy, embryology, digestion, metabolism, physiology, etiology, genetics and immunity is also found in many ancient Indian texts.

Maybe it is our lack of confidence that we are not proud of ourselves and I blame the parents of today for doing so. No matter how much we like on TV to see kids show - skate, bike, run miles etc.. Very few parents actually let their kids do it because they are scared for their kids or do not have confidence that their kids can also achieve it. And the same mental block stays with us for rest of our lives. Parents talk a lot in praising their kids but internally they wont let them do anything daring because they always consider him/her weaker than other kids. Need to come out of this feeling.

Parents always want good for us.
Rather, according to me if someone is scared then he is not actually having right information. So for me, its lack of information rather than being scared.

Lack of information definitely will make one inconfident but there are moments where we have information e.g. to try out skiing. Even though I have information, some people will not try it. Everybody will be scared becasue it is first time but not trying is something bad.

India has changed technologically and tried to be more westernized
which is very bad because India is a unique place just for being the only country to have all this great culture and people >:(

its really gr8 to see so much of information but at the same time a question arises-
why is it that we peep into past to feel proud upon us?
why is it that the country which had such existence has turned up brazenly uncouth?

I also agree as Ricky said earlier that India has changed a lot throughout the years. And there is no point in raising finger to here and there to accuse someone, some group, or something else as responsible for this decay. Honestly speaking, we-the citizen of India are real responsible. How many of us can honestly say that they don't do any compromise with any malpractice or any illegal act in their everyday life? Often we criticize western or other developed countries for many reasons. But do we really have those good qualities what they mostly have. We often keep our eyes close to others' good factors as well as our bad qualities. Every moment almost everyone of us in our respective professions or our daily life encourage one or other malpractices, either it could be making your Passport in an illegal way or purchasing oxytocine-induced, colored vegetables. We accept everything as the part of life and accuse government or system as the culprit. But often we forget that we make this government and we are the part of this system. We have the voice but we don't raise it due to our "everyday" self-interest. We say we are Indians and we feel proud of it. After seeing whatever is happening in Maharastra should we really proud of being an "Indian?" I think until and unless Indians are becoming true law abiding responsible citizens, neither we can grow nor we can compete with developed countries and we have to live with World Bank's endowment.
