Can we cancel passport online using File Number ?

Dear Sir / Madam,

I want to know can we cancel the passport slot in online by using the file number ?

If you have filled the application and submitted but payment is pending then you can simply cancel it online. But as you said you have file number generated which means you have paid it already . Now you have to visit regional passport office to get it cancelled in person . I am not sure but there is a penalty fee also for such closure.

I suggest better to go with same file and if there are issues then work on them to resolve instead of closing this application.
