What happens inside stomach when I eat spicy food like Gol Gappa

I wonder what happens inside our stomach when we eat spicy or super peppery food like Gol-gappa or pani puri ? I am from north India and here Gol gappa is nothing less than a blast of spice, specially the spicy water in it. I see people eating it so devotion regularly that it makes me surprised what is there in it. By no means I think its a nutritious food and also not satisfying to one's appetite or hunger. So what is in it and whatever it is there, how it affects our stomach. ?

I don't know but I think it hurts your stomach and causes irritation. If you are not used to it then hot pepper can make your taste-buds numb for days. Excess of anything is bad, so this spicy food too.
