Laptop Inbuilt card reader disappeared,not working in Samsung NP350E5C-S01IN

I have very weird situation with my laptop which is Samsung NP350E5C-S01IN. Its an i3 laptop with 4GB ram and has a great onboard card reader which was working good until recently. Since its onboard, making it reading new card was risky because once you inserted a card, to make it read another card, you have to first disable it from Device Manager and enable again else computer will see it connected and never removed.

But all these years , (my laptop is more than 2 years old), it worked very good. But now its no where. I can not see it even in device manager to disable / enable it. I tried restarting laptop, looked over other placed (some says to reconnect its connector on the board) but when I checked my laptop, its actually part of mainboard itself. So in my case it can't just reconnect its connector.

Any other advice or its just plain dead ?

It could be dead as you said you can't find it in Device manager.

But before making any conclusion, you need to verify if SmarCard service is running on your laptop (assuming you have windows running on your laptop from your description). It is required for removal devices to function.


Press "Windows + R" , now type "services.msc".

It should open Service manager, now look for "Smart Card" service. See if its disabled. If its disabled then enable it and try to again scan for your card reader.
