Please enlighten me whether filing FIR for loss of mobile is absoultely necessary in India. I have lost moblle (not stolen) and I have blocked the SIM. At the time of request for new SIM with same number, whether FIR proof can be demanded by service provider?

Though it is rule if your phone is stolen or is lost, you need to make FIR in order to get duplicate SIM issued. However, if you can simply say that your SIM is damaged, you can get new SIM issue without any problem.
