What are the pros and cons of a solid state HDD in laptop

I am going to make decision to buy a new hard drive for my laptop and I am seriously considering SSD, though solid state hard disk drives are very costly compared to normal spinning hard drives, is it worth spending such extra amount, please tell me what are the pros and cons of a solid state HDD and also share your person experience if you using such hard drives in your computer and what was your experience as compared to normal drives ?

Can they make gaming faster and better?
