Difference between Telephoto and High power Zoom Lens

Anyone knows what is difference between high power zoom lens and telephoto lens used in DSLR camera ? Please explain in common lay man language because I am super noob for all this terminology and have just started to explore and learn things in world of photography as my father gifted me a nikon dslr and now I want to add some good lense to it with high zoom capacity but also not very costly and this is where I encountered these two types of lens .. telephoto and zoom lenses from nikon.

Now please guide.

I don't know much details but I know that Zoom lenses are far better than telephoto lens. If you have choice of Zoom lens and telephoto then go for power zoom lenses.

I hope someone else with more knowledge can elaborate it further.
