Difficult choice of India

The summit of the BRICS states was held in Brazil on July 14-16 . It was the sixth such a summit. The Prime Minister of India N.Modi at the first time since his appointment took part in the BRICS summit. The Indian delegation except of N.Modi also included National Security Advisor A. Doval, Finance secretary A.Mayaram and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and for Finance and Corporate Affairs N.Sitharaman. Analysts of the host country indicated that the summit will be a chance for N.Modi to establish relationships with leaders of other countries. The main emphasis was done on the fact that N.Modi will have an opportunity to talk with the most influential politician of the modern world - President of China Xi Jinping.

During the summit, N.Modi also talked with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The main topic of conversation was discussion of energy and military-technical cooperation issues.
Vladimir Putin proposed N.Modi a gas pipeline project to India, that cost $40 billion. This project does not look very promising, reminding that Russia has already got involved in a similar project with China (cost of $55 billion) and yet does not have means for its implementation. For the most part, Putin's statements are populism, in order to show the U.S. and the EU economic opportunities with other countries (which did not impose sanctions against his country).
Putin also suggested the intensification of military cooperation between Russia and India. But while increasing development of cooperation between Russia and Pakistan in this area, it looks unlikely, because partners honesty is more valued than larger contracts. After the imposition of sanctions by the West, Putin will search other markets for their DIC, and it is worth to ponder: whether Russia considers India as an ally, or is it just a necessity under sanctions.
After the recent events in East Ukraine and Russian direct involvement to crashing the Malaysian airliner over Donetsk, Western world plans to accelerate sanctions against Russia. The main sanction steps would be exclusion of Russia from the ICAO and full trade embargo for their products. The international community will analyze trade relations of Russia, in order to verify the Kremlin allies of involvement in financing of terrorism.
India towards a difficult choice: to buy low-cost blood stained Russian weapons or support the development of its own economy in terms of international cooperation.
