In today’s world, it is difficult to maintain the "happily ever after glow"� with a spouse, with most marriages ending in bitter divorce. And yet, there are a few who despite all this have managed to stay together so long that they start to look, think and talk alike and if you did not know them, you’d think they were siblings.

As an engaged couple intending to tie the knot, here are some happily ever after tips you can try out early in the start of you marriage to ensure its longevity.

• Do not, for whatever reason, assume that you are one. You are two separate individuals and have different characters. To get to the place where you are "one"�, you need to work at it. This means that as you start out, do not take the other person for granted until after many years of living together and even then always watch out for new things about them.
  
  
• Learn to compromise, no one is perfect and no two people are exactly alike, you may have things in common but you will have divergent views on other things. Learn to respect your partner’s opinion and also at times you will have to accept stuff they love even if you are not interested in such things.
  
  
• Respect your partner more than anyone else and constantly remind them of how you feel about them. Do not take it for granted that they must know, they may know but most people need verbal confirmation.
  
  
• Talking and listening to each other will keep you updated on what is going on in each other’s life. This way you can comfort each other and a partner should not feel neglected by the other. Know that your partner is not a mind reader and if you want them to know something, you have to tell them and then give them a chance to react
  .
• Support each other at all costs, no matter the situation, be it good or bad. You are now the most important thing in each other’s lives and you should assume this role as such. If you are not ready to carry this responsibility then please do not get married.

When looking for the happily ever after, the surest way there is to talk to those who are already there. If you can find a couple who have been together for over 30 years and ask them how they managed to stay together, then you are likely to get tried and tested ways to a happy and long marriage.
