Buying Advice Between Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 (Turbo Petrol) & the GLC 220D (Diesel)

So, One of my friend was on the lookout for a luxury SUV in the 50-60L bracket and after much deliberation, has closed in on the Mercedes GLC.

But now, he's torn between the Petrol & the Diesel variant

Turbo Petrol:
+ V6 like power (50% more than 220D)
+ Diesel like flat torque curve
+ Lower in cabin NHV
+ Lower maintenance cost
+ Lower resale value

On road price is almost similar, with less than Rs. 50,000 premium for the Petrol. Clearly, the heart says Petrol, but the SA is strongly advising to go with the Diesel saying it will have a better resale value.

So need your advice on which would be the wiser option keeping in mind that this will be self driven and max usage would be between 10-15k per annum.

We all love petrols, but for big SUVs, We feel diesel is the way to go. These cars are built with terrific sound deadening materials and we don't think you will find the diesel to be loud or clattery on the inside. Though the petrol has more peak power (50%), in the real world the difference will be marginal as the diesel has more usable power. Also we are sure that petrol performance will be blunted with our regular octane fuel. If I am not mistaken, the sticker on the fuel lid of the GLC 300 recommends 98 or 97 RON.
Maintenance wise petrol prices are very high in India so GLC 220D is the right option for you unless you want power over mileage.
