Does anyone monitor how much money for Defence ?

    Advert.
I heard about a case where a Digital camera was purchased
by a defense laboratory from abroad, for 9000 US dollars,
while its price was only 1000.

The middlemen/agents took 8000 dollars as their commission.

God only knows how many such deals are done overseas by crooked
    middlemen and ministry officials.
I am told these kind of markups are rampant and nobody cares.

So the question here is: In the name of defense if the country
is spending 100 Rupees, how much is the actual benefit
and how much goes into the pockets of the corrupt and greedy ?

Because, we have a habit of saying blindly
    - " For sake of defense of the country any amount of money is ok ."

That well intentioned belief of the innocent public is actually exploited
by greedy corrupt officials and their hidden agents.

I do not know about other ministries like Shipping, Aviation and
so on. The levels of such greed may be existing there also.

Re: Does anyone monitor how much money for Defence ?

It is corruption, it exist everywhere, it is penetrated so deep that now its kind of official in almost all department. Lately, I met an contractor who said that when ever he get a contract he has to pay about 10% of his earning to Govt. officials which is fixed charge. So to compensate he had to show more expenditure.

Believe me, there is almost 50% money which is wasted in India in every department. Even, recently I saw a website made for U.P. scholarship for backward classes and I know who took the contract of website, the website is made as if done by a school kid and charges are as if they have made huge portal as of Zapak.com which is owned by Reliance Group.

Also, I know another person who works in PWD, he said that if we get what it usually gets proposed in PWD plans then we will have India's infrastructure as of developed nation. But sadly.. corruption eats more than half of the development.

Re: Does anyone monitor how much money for Defence ?

Does anyone recall what later PM Rajiv said..?

" For every 1 Re budgeted and spent for development, only 15 Paisa
goes to the people. Balance 85 paisa is in the hands of greedy and corrupt. "

Corruption is everywhere. But in India, a dollar lost to corruption
has greater impact on the people than a dollar lost in say - USA.

The important thing is, are we doing enough to stop corruption ?
    NO.
Why ? - because we are cursed by two factors.

We have "good" "honest" "pure" leaders who, other than that, are actually morons
and therefore cannot administer, do things efficiently and competently.
This encourage corruption - top down.

The other curse - we are cursed with "corrupt" leaders who just do not care
    for the people.

Re: Does anyone monitor how much money for Defence ?

    I agree with views expressed.
I have also worked in Government Department. We cannot change people - hard nut.

Any one who is really interested in knowing how eradication of corruption, upholding transparency in administration, Right to Information Act are working, they can get the information from Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) about the complaint (lodged by me) registered by CVC 611/01/10. CVC in its web site initially stated that “Administrative Action has been taken”, then stated that “Commission ordered closure of case” and now web site gives error message.

Specifically I have not given the details of the case - honestly hoping CVC will give the details of complaints and action taken - then it will be impartial.

    Regards,
    Sincerely,
