Prime minister Manmohan Singh's criticism by Time magazine on the ground of slackness he has shown in governance has left no space for congress party which hitherto defended prime minister on the grounds of his international reputation and argued that the prime minister Manmohan Singh is beyond criticism as even Americans put him in high esteem. Now the criticism has come from same direction.
Many of us may consider this as fusion of pressure with journalism but whatever is published in the magazine matches the criticism that the govt and the prime minister received from different quarters within the country.
Corruption, policy paralysis, inflation, increasing fiscal deficit, diminishing growth rate, falling of rupee against dollar, poor handling of sensitive issues, inability to keep allies in line, price rise and people's sufferings are main issues present union govt, with inexplicable reasons, failed to address.
All the issues listed above could be tackled, in fact this is the job of the govt to solve all these problems but for the reasons known to the govt only it did not show will to resolve these issues. A general discussion within the country has become international topic of discussion. Friends of good times started acting as critics at the time of crisis.
First job of govt is to protect interests of its own people rather than promoting interests of market economy and corporate houses. Economically world is heading for trouble due to European crisis which, despite all efforts shows no signs of improvement and many experts believe irrespective of all efforts (which actually favor interests of few) European crisis is bound to aggravate and will shake whole of the world.
Amid all these unfavorable conditions, this is high time for Indian govt to come out of inertia and act.
