Yet another story of shameful caste discrimination comes from UP. In one incident in Etawa district Dalit father and son were killed because the son dared to love an upper caste girl. In Sahsa village of Bareily district panchayat issued a diktat to stop Dalits from entering temple. This is shocking. After 64 years of independence in a state which till four months back was ruled by a dalit chief minister such things can not be called civilized. Of course this is against law but how much law is respected by those who break it at their own will.
In urban India where caste consideration is comparatively less condition of dalits are little better but in villages they daily face problems on the grounds of caste discrimination. In villages where social structure is more caste oriented and people are called by there caste names dalits are not allowed in social gatherings.
Question remains why conditions of dalits is still deplorable despite innumerable policies and programs to uplift them are initiated by govts throughout the country ?
It indicates lack of will in those who govern. They don't dare to put finger on sensitive social fabric though laws are framed, reservations are given, stories of caste discrimination keep pouring in. If govts are serious they must implement laws sternly.
