Yamaha, now one of the dominant two wheeler manufacturer in India is eying scooter segment in India too with the upcoming launch of their much-awaited 125 cc gearless scooter - The Yamaha Ray.

As per news, this scooter will be launched officially on 15th September 2012 and Yamaha is already taking its booking. They have received more than 5000 pre-bookings for this vehicle. You can also book it for the token amount of Rs. 5000, however in any case if you decide to cancel booking, they will charge Rs. 500 as fine and will refund the rest.

The price of the scooter is expected be around Rs. 45000 to Rs. 50000 however its not yet confirmed by Yamaha.

Other details are yet to be confirmed but it will come with telescopic suspension which is suitable for smooth ride. Though as per some news, it may be launched with 113cc engine as opposed to 125cc as expected earlier 4 stroke, air cooled SOHC engine.


The scooter segment in India has recently seen a big change, there was time when company like Bajaj stopped production of scooters on the ground of less profitablity but scenario is changing and gearless scooters are quite popular among students , women and even male riders for their daily commuting because of their ease of use and sheer simplicity. And Yamaha is expecting to increase their market share by foraying into Scooter segment with launch of Ray.
