Anonymous is a loosely associated hacktivist group. The name Anonymous itself is inspired by the perceived anonymity under which users post images and comments on the Internet. Usage of the term Anonymous in the sense of a shared identity began on imageboards.
Anonymous is again in news, as they now target the official website of Union minister Kapil Sibal. According to reports, Sibal's website, Kapil Sibal's Official Website, was displaying a message – 'the website has been hacked by Anonymous #OpIndia'. However, the website looks like has been restored now. Anonymous in its tweet had said 'Kapil Sibal's site is getting trolled links to come up soon'. The group also said that Kapil Sibal should look around the world before he say something as a protest against the IT Act and Sec 66. After the attack the official site has crashed. According to reports, the group hacked the constituency section of the minister’s official website and replaced the page with a picture portraying him as someone who considers 'freedom' harmful to the growth of the country. Meanwhile, the hacker group tweeted that Kapil Sibal's site is getting trolled links to come up soon. Also, official site crashed post attack by the hackers.
Recently, there are a lot of discussions happening in the country about the Section 66 (A) of the IT Act which allegedly curtails the freedom of speech guaranteed by the Constitution of India. Using this section the Mumbai police arrested two girls who posted innocuous material on their facebook account criticizing bandh like situation in Mumbai after Bal Thackery's death. On Thursday, the government has issued guidelines stipulating what the junior police officers need to do before filing an FIR under Section 66 (A) of the IT Act.
