I have just joint a company wherein our IT department has half the systems running on Avast & half the systems running on Kaspersky and both are pirated versions. Can someone suggest easiest which AV can be purchased as we want to legalize the AV that we use.

You can try comodo free security, its good and effective.
Then you can try webroot secure anywhere, a tiny but very effective antivirus.
