Can a PCIE 3.0 Graphic Card will work on PCIe 1.0 slot on older motherboard ?

    Advert.
    Hi,

I have a new Radeon RX 470 graphic card which is PCIe 3.0 16x interface and the board I have has only PCIe 1.0 16x interface. I have 500 watt cooler master power supply and it is fine and should work as this card comes with 180 w of recommended usage. But I am not sure if using PCIe 3.0 gpu on PCIe 1.0 interface is safe ?

I saw that can fit it easy but will it be safe to use it on 1.0 interface ?

    Please advice.

It may work or it may not work. In simple words if your motherboard only has PCIe v1.0 then it very old and chances of support your new card (that too RX470) are very very slim. Technically PCIe v3.0 is compatible with older variants and if it works then you should notice slight degraded performance of the card.

However, if it was PCIe v2.0 then I suppose it would have worked 100% without noticeable downgrade in performance.
