Use of bones in sugar refining in India

    Advert.
    Hello,

This is a question which has been asked to me by someone. I immediately search Google to find out if there use of Bone Char however, the information provided is not very convincing. There are some types of sugar where bone char is used and while with some, its not. Can anyone give me simpler and clearer explanation ?

You should read this article :

The thing is that now there is no sugar refinery in India which is using bone char in refining process. Sugar derived from sugarcane in these refineries of India is vegan. Filtration and declourisation techniques for cane sugar can involve either bone char, traditional granular / activated carbon (coal, wood, coconut), or the use of synthetic ion exchange resins. Manufacturers of cane sugar in India use the latter or sulphur dioxide.

Now almost everywhere Sulphur dioxide is used. Although it means very high level of sulphur dioxide which about 6x higher than international standards in India but yes, its vegan
