Sugar yield crosses 28 mn tones

JULY 06 NEW DELHI: In India sugar production has recorded 28 million tonnes so far in the year to September 2007, and production is expected to touch the level of 30 million tones next year, a trade source said yesterday.The world's second-largest producer churned out 19.3 million tonnes in the sugarcane crushing season to September 2006. "By the end of this season, production will touch 28.5 million tonnes and should reach a massive 30 million tonnes next year," the source told media.


In June Farm Minister Sharad Pawar said that sugar output has touched 27 million tonnes this year, and an additional 800,000 to a million tonnes would be produced by the end of September
