Finally this great even in which 100 million votes were casted got over on 07/07/2007. Everywhere people showed a lots of interest in it and when the final date was approaching, people got mad about voting. Every day newspapers were having many news about various campaign running to encourage people to vote for "A wonder" from their country. Was a mega even on on Lisbon it ended with so much sho-sho ie. big ceremony.

Following are the top 7 wonders of world. (NEW)
(Alphabatical Order)
The Great Wall, China
Petra, Jordan
Christ Redeemer, Brazil
Machu Picchu, Peru
Chichén Itzá, Mexico
The Roman Colosseum, Italy
The Taj Mahal, India

Now we have a question, was that all worthy for anything ? Is it really going to make the difference ?

The Short Story
The n7w organization started all way back in Sept. 1999 by a Swiss-originated businessman Bernard Weber. The criteria was that any man made monument built before 2000 .
By 2005 they had a list of almost 121 monuments later on narrowed to 21. After that it was narrowed even 20 as the Great Pyramid of Giza were removed considering Wonder of Ancient world.
And 07/07/2007 finally after considering millions of vote, winners were announced in Lisbon.

Its not worthy
Yes, I voted but just for because of prestige of the monument which was representing my country. It was clearly inspired from nationalism. There was no scientific reason or any other logical aspect for which I voted. I do not even know much about other candidates so naturally I voted for one which represented my country.
I knew right from the beginning that its not really worthy to for it because of following reasons:

1. It reflects views of people who know about this campaign and have access to means of voting. (Even Unesco said same)
2. It is totally inspired from spirit of Nationalism.
3. The even is organized for the purpose of making money..
4. No national / international body is supporting this event.

It is said that 50% of the revenue generated from this campaign shall be used to aid these monuments. Well, considering expenses for these monuments, it is very very low amount but from the point of view of a individual, its revenue is huge. What all it means that its just a Idea to make money. Mr. Bernard Weber sure have earned an huge sum from this.
Just after its finish, they announced new campaign for New Natural Seven Wonders of World. He is even looking for more money.

No National / International body is supporting this campaign:
Though they asked many but no one supporting, no country not even UNESCO is supporting this.
Unesco even gave a pres release to clear that it has nothing to do with real stuff..
In order to avoid any damaging confusion, UNESCO wishes to reaffirm that there is no link whatsoever between UNESCO’s World Heritage programme, which aims to protect world heritage, and the current campaign concerning “The New 7 Wonders of the World”.

This campaign was launched in 2000 as a private initiative by Bernard Weber, the idea being to encourage citizens around the world to select seven new wonders of the world by popular vote.

Although UNESCO was invited to support this project on several occasions, the Organizaton decided not to collaborate with Mr. Weber.

UNESCO’s objective and mandate is to assist countries in identifying, protecting and preserving World Heritage. Acknowledging the sentimental or emblematic value of sites and inscribing them on a new list is not enough. Scientific criteria must be defined, the quality of candidates evaluated, and legislative and management frameworks set up. The relevant authorities must also demonstrate commitment to these frameworks as well as to permanently monitoring the state of conservation of sites. The task is one of technical conservation and political persuasion. There is also a clear educational role with respect to the sites’ inherent value, the threats they face and what must be done to prevent their loss.

There is no comparison between Mr Weber’s mediatised campaign and the scientific and educational work resulting from the inscription of sites on UNESCO’s World Heritage List*. The list of the “7 New Wonders of the World” will be the result of a private undertaking, reflecting only the opinions of those with access to the internet and not the entire world. This initiative cannot, in any significant and sustainable manner, contribute to the preservation of sites elected by this public.
News paper here reported that they asked our govt. to support but they denied. Even Egyptian govt. got mad on them for including Pyramid in their list, later on it is the reason that they had removed it from last 21.

It is is all that bad then what is the use?
Well, surely that business man made nice money.
Secondly, it advertised all Monument who got listed in list, I am sure all of them shall get a boost in tourist but will only be for a short time.
Apart of this, no other effect I see.

I am at no cost going to be indulge in any next campaign they starts or have started.
