Colossal waste in India - 2

    Advert.
The Ambassador car - a 60 year old British design is being used as
official car for the Central, state government and its officials.

It is one of the most simplistic engine car with a fuel efficiency that is deplorable.
There are so many newer model cars which has an efficiency more than double of the ambassador car.

An Ambassador car can give in city driving about 7 KM / liter while there are cars available of the same capacity that can give 16 to 18 KM / liter.

Considering the huge bureaucracy in India and the hundreds of thousands
of Ambassador cars used by them, one can see the colossal waste of high
    price imported petrol.

All ministers, government officials from the police, to stat boards, FCI, IOC,
AI. Military, SCI, LIC, Nationalized bank officials, Railways and many many
more use this Ambassador car for official purposes.
The figure is in hundreds of thousands of cars.

So you can see the tremendous amount of petrol being burnt by these
users by using a 60 year old car model.

The government talks about the huge fuel import bill, talks about conservation,
talks about productivity and efficiency but in reality they have forgotten to
    practice what they preach.

After 60 years of Independence, the govt of India is still not woken up
and made decisions that matter. It is a sleeping government that has no
initiative or innovative thinking. This massive savings can be done with a
simple decision. But they are too busy politicking to do do even this
    small reform in official transportation.

If they change the official designated car to a more fule efficient car, the
country can save perhaps a 1000 crores of rupees annually.
Which can be used to start and run a 1000 schools or health clinics
    across the country every year.

The Indian government is an incompetent and inefficient entity.
    That is the bottom line.
Another example of colossal waste due to incompetence of the GOI.

Pluto.. are you something against Govt. or trying to awaken govt. Anyways..
That was just a offtopic comment.

    Lets come to the topic..
Slowly Ambassador car is being replaced by more luxurious cars, can't say about their fuel efficiency.
Though currently, Ford Fiesta can be best match as it has by far hight milage ~30 kmpl and that too on diesel. so city driving can easily settle around ~20 kmpl.

But on the other hand, Its first Indian car, based on Oxford Morris. May be they have attachment as an Indian car. If Indian govt. declares Ford's Fiesta as Official car then would be like giving a huge business of them and draining out foreign currency.
Though TATA can be another choice.. may be Indigo !

But Hindustan Motors (ie. Ambassador's manufacturer) is constantly refining it, only one thing now it lacks are safety measures.

Hi, I am not against anyone in particular.
But I am against waste and inefficiency.

Something which the Indian government and bureaucracy are guilty of.
What is the use of all these IAS, IFS officers if the country is in such a mess
even after 60 years of independence.?
They are not competent or they are simply indifferent to reality.

Yes these IAS & such officers are meant to prepare / draft the path but problem is that they are actually ruled by so called Neta ie. Politician, they simply do not have anything to do with efficiency.
Meet any determined IAS and you will find him frustrated.. they have to salute & follow people who are far less qualified and inefficient even in their thinking too.

Re: Colossal waste in India - 2

Actually, when you look at these waste issue, you will find that
all that was required to prevent it, was a simple change of rules
    in the official book.
Remove Ambassador car as the GOI official car designation.
As you can see, our netas and Babus had 50 years to think
and make such small changes which can save so much.

But all they do is talk. No application of the mind.
No need for costly buildup of infrastructure, roads
or bridges to do this simple thing.
Just change the rules in the book.
That also they seem unaware of.
Incompetence and inefficiency , unheard of in other nations.

What we lack is workman ship in Govt. depts, they do not have to be innovative in order to get promotion.
You see there is nothing which actually encourage them to be efficient.
For them, whatever they do or DO NOTHING, shall get promoted after 5 yrs or 3yrs.. then why to waste energy to think for efficiency ??
