Chance Pe Dance: Hindi Movie Review

The story directed by Ken Ghose who has worked with Shahid Kapoor in films like ‘Fida’ and ‘Ishq Vishq’ joins him again in Chance Pe dance with Genelia.

Shahid (Sameer or Sam) is about Shahid and his love for dance and his struggle and the fame that he makes afterwards. Sam is a hardworking guy who hates kids but have to teach them to dance for him to earn a living. The kids hate to dance. There are some wonderful scenes with the kids and lots of laughter as well. Meanwhile Sam meets Tina (Genelia) who is a choreographer and helps Shahid to make his dream come true. In the end Shahid turns into a famous star as would be predictable by anyone who views the film.

This tale has been said many times before, but if you are a Shahid Kapoor fan, you would still like to see the movie. The songs are peppy and Genelia looks good with Shahid, but the film completely belongs to him from the beginning. He has done a wonderful job as an actor, his dance and style cannot be ignored. They make up for the lack spontaneity in the film. Even though the film is predictable from the begging, there are some scenes that move you like the one with the kids. Genelia plays a choreographer but she has not danced must in the film, but with Shahid present and the moves he makes will leave you awed. He dances as skillfully as Hritick and Prabhu Deva. The boy has gone very far and his comic timing has improved as well.

The choreography by Ahmed Khan and Kudelka is top notch and deserves an applaud. The story could have been served with other ingredients instead of using the same old track. Genelia looks cute but her work is one of inspiring Shahid and keep his low morale high. She is a good actress and deserves more than this role. Mohnish Bahl(Film Director) in the film who dumps Shahid and later claps for his victory has given an alright act. Parikshit Sahani is getting typecast as the father. The problem with the film is that some things cannot be digested, like there's a contest in which Shahid takes part which belongs to the director who dumped him, Okay that's fine, but where is the contest shown in the movie? where are the other participants, had the director thought of that part, the film could have been better. In one scene, the contestants have to say a speech and Shahid forgets his lines and starts talking about his mother and her dreams, looked like the dialouge had been forcefully added to the film to give it an emotional touch. Had Shahid stuck to the scene and improvised in the same subject after forgetting his lines, it would have added as a plus point to the film. The first half walks and the second half simply fly's away, as though the director wanted to quickly wrap it up and move on.

Chance Pe Dance; May or May not have a Chance.
