Striker: Hindi Movie Review
Striker is a Hindi action-drama film written, directed and produced by Chandan Arora. It has Siddarth of “Rang de Basanti” fame and newcomer Padmapriya, in lead roles with Vidya Malvade, Nicolette Bird, Anupam Kher, Seema Biswas and Aditya Pancholi in supporting roles.
Surya (Sidharth ) is a young boy from a poor background and even poorer health. When he misses school due to illness for as long as five months, they refuse to take him back in and that’s when elder brother Chandrakant (Anup Soni) takes him under his wing and trains him to become a carom player and he later goes on to become the junior carom champion. But thinking about his and his family’s future, Surya leaves the game and concentrates to earn bread for his family. Its only when he looses all his money to a fraud Dubai agent , does he go back to the game again but this time with the added twist of gambling in it. He has to face the dreadful ganster Jaleel ( Aditya Pancholi)whome he had previously stayed away from but now due to circumstances has to be in his company. The film is bacically about that and also of the riots taking place at that time and what happens to the two friends , one Hindu and one Muslim.
The story is one of gambling and gangsters and the lot and in the middle we have the cute romance between Surya and Noorie (Nicolette Bird) which is sweet and at times funny. The film shows crime and some scenes will not be liked by all.
Sidharth has put great effort in his acting, but that alone won’t be able to carry out the entire film. Also other actors such as Anupam Kher and Aditya pancholi has given a decent performance and newcomer Padmapriya is cute. The surprise goodie bag however comes in the form of Ankur Vikal. He keeps the humor alive throughout the film. Music is nice. The song Raat ke chingari will be liked .
OVERALL RATING: 2/5
