    NRI Stands for ?

    Advert.
    NRI stands for ?
An Indian citizen or a foreign citizen of Indian origin who stays abroad for employment/carrying on business or vocation for 6 months or more or under circumstances indicating an intention for an uncertain duration of stay abroad is a Non-Resident Indian (NRI).

This is how NRIs are largely defined. But is it true? Can we take this NRI into different dimension? NRIs are seen in India as Non- Returnable Indians, Non-Reliable Indians or Nasty Rich Indians.

People in India generally think that if one get a visa to overseas, he needs to stay there over a period of time to enjoy his NRI benefits and then slowly try to become the resident in that country. If possible get the next generation to own the other country's passport (This thought mostly applicable to person heading Europe, US and other developed nation). Hence they become Non- Returnable or Non-Reliable Indians How many of u NRIs believe in this ????????????

Like Indians, NRI sample ranges from labour worker to multi millionaire. In general there is a perception in every Indian's eye that NRIs are all rich people. How many NRIs can accept this perception ????????????????? Forget labour class, can an average income holder of 60000USD per annum, accept the fact that they are considered as rich people.

In terms of currency conversion equivalency NRI earn a lot. But they do spend more at the same time. Cost of Samosa which is Rs.10 in India would cost him 2 pounds (Rs 160) in Uk, 3 Dollars (RS.120 ).

How many NRIs still daydreams of owning a house. They are always in dilemma of where to settle for their retirement life. They atlast decide to own a house in India because it is lot cheaper to own a house in India than in US> But they own a house in which they never will live. They are lot confused about their future that they arent sure whether they wannna come back to India or stay there in the alien nation........

So at the end NRI stands for Nowhere Residing India.

    Re: NRI Stands for ?

Yeah I agree too. But at the same time you also should consider that many so called NRI people are now trying to return back to their home. Reason - many job opportunities have been opened up in India and many are getting good compensation as well.

In this situation, there should be a law where a NRI coming back from any country and stayed outside India for a min 5 years should get a salary 10% lesser than the one who had been working in India for the same grade. This will be actually a whip in the ass for all the money hunters.

I do not agree with 2 commentators views because when NRIs are working overseas, they are providing less competition to the Resident Indian. secondly they are earning Foreign exchange and bringing Gold and other metals and strengthening Indian economy.
In 1991, when Indian government was hanging with minority Govt and jokers were running Government, NRI had helped to some extent by buying SBI Bonds with sure good returns and provided Foreign exchange to the Indian Govt. Same time the Foreign exchange was used for buying Crude oil, Coal Import, Overseas studies.
So why not resident understand this part and then make comments.
Side by side why they are not participating in voting and removing corrupt politician and bring Foreign Exchange kept overseas to reduce tax liability and improve reserve.
