Mittal Vs Mittal: Hindi Movie Review
Director Karan Razdan's has come up with a topic that we are aware of and sadly lived by many. Mitali (Rituparna Sengupta) is a model and has dreams of meeting her prince charming. Karan Mittal (Rohit Roy) is a high society brat with loads of money and wants to marry Mitali. He proposes and with the consent of her parents gets married. Mitali’s mother-in-law doesn’t like her and keep creating problem between Mitali and Karan. Karan being mama’s boy listens to everything she says. Karan has a certain idea as to how a woman should be and expects Mitali to behave in that manner as well. He somehow turns into a monster at night and repeatedly rapes his wife. After being tortured and repeatedly humiliated, Mitali leaves her house and files a case in the court of law. She hires Suchitra Krishnamurthy as her lawyer and Karan hires Gulshan Grover.
What follows is the court sequences in the film and some between Suchitra and Gulshan are very powerful. But somehow they do not specify whether it is Marital Rape or Domestic violence that the case is registered for. Also the first time marriage of the son and both the parties openly doing a T.V. chat show, when the case in still in the court was very childish thought of the director. Some sceans are in English such as the young woman sharing her experience of marital rape, which should have been said in Hindi to reach a wider audience.
Rituparna is very impressive in her portrayal of a victim girl and has a great screen presence. She rightly enacts the pain felt by the character with her own insight. Rohit is fine as the cunning husband and given a solid performance. Suchitra and Graover pull off a power full performance and Reema Lagoo, Amar Talwar and Dolly Thakore are ok. The songs don’t give any lift to the movie and the camera work is strictly ok. The movie has a message, a true life story for many people, adding up masala to it should be strictly avoided as it leads the film away and makes it look cheap and meaningless.
